Our story

The story behind our name: Janet Marlowe Nix

Janet Marlowe Nix "Mama Nix"

Marlo is named after Janet Marlowe Nix, our co-founder Preston's mom. It is a name about memory, and a promise to help protect it.

The idea

Memory came first. The name followed.

For as long as I can remember, I knew I wanted to start my own company. I also knew that if I ever did, it had to stand for something bigger than business.

When Gabe and I started talking about the idea that became MarloAI, we kept coming back to one theme: memory for marketing.

We wanted to give marketing teams a living memory of their brand, so knowledge compounds over time and shapes every future decision, message, and experience.

Once we saw that memory sat at the heart of what we were building, the name felt obvious.

Mama Nix

The person behind the name.

Six years ago, my mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. She developed it in her early sixties, which is sadly not uncommon in our family.

My mom has three siblings. Of the four of them, three are living with this disease.

I'm incredibly lucky to still have her in my life. She still pops up on LinkedIn sometimes, which always makes me laugh.

But Alzheimer's hangs over her and our family every day. It moves slowly, taking everyone it touches through hope, heartbreak, grief, and gratitude. There is still no cure.

Growing up, she wasn't just my mom. She was "Mama Nix" to all of my friends.

She has been a ray of sunshine in my life and in the lives of everyone around her. She has a gift for making people feel like family.

Her warmth, generosity, and unwavering support left a lasting mark on everyone fortunate enough to know her. That's who we named this company after.

Our commitment

Part of something bigger.

A company named for memory should help protect it. So Marlo carries a commitment that reaches past the product.

01

A share of revenue, every year

Preston and Gabe have pledged a portion of Marlo's revenue every year to organizations supporting Alzheimer's research and education.

02

Closer to a cure

Every step Marlo takes forward helps push that research a little closer to a cure. That's a legacy that would make Janet proud.

03

Stories, told out loud

Families often carry Alzheimer's quietly. We tell ours openly, so the people carrying it know they have company.
